How to makeup like Gal Gadot

If there was ever an example that proves why women should wear makeup, it would be Wonder Woman. Not only because of her iconic look — think dark circles under tired eyes with eyeliner smudged on top, lips painted black — but also because of what we know about her secret weapon: Gal Godot.

The 31 year old Israeli actress first rose to fame playing Diana Prince/Wonder Girl in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and then again in Suicide Squad, where she played another key role as Harley Quinn’s love interest “Diana Prince” (yes, really) – but Gadot’s most famous role may be as Wonder Woman in both Justice League Part 1 and 2.

In addition to starring alongside Chris Evans in Captain America: Civil War, Gadot recently appeared in Fast 8, directed by F. Gary Gray, starring Dwayne Johnson and Jason Sudeikis. And she still finds time to work out regularly. In fact, just last week, Gadot told us all about her intense workout regimen.

But perhaps most important to Wonder Woman fans everywhere, though, is this: Gal Gadot doesn’t even bother putting any make up on. Ever. Which means she manages to look flawless every single day. What sorcery is behind this amazing feat? Well, actually…it’s not magic at all. It’s science.

Here’s what our interview with Gadot looked like when she walked into my office sans makeup…

What Gal Gadot Wear

“I’m pretty simple,” says Gadot. “I have one or two items from Tarte [a brand known for its total face coverage lipsticks]. But usually I’ll go for something basic. A foundation primer will help your skin absorb products more effectively.”

Gadot uses a matte finish concealer called Urban Decay 24 Hour Blendable Matte Foundation ($22). “It gives me great coverage,” she adds. “And it goes right onto clean pores. If you don’t wash your face before applying your moisturizer, you’re going to end up looking shiny if you skip washing your face first. Also, I always apply primer and powder after cleansing and toning. Then foundation, followed by finishing cream.

“Next comes setting spray which helps set everything. Then I try to keep things minimalistic.”

She typically wears NARS Velvet Matte Lip Pencil ($18), Anastasia Beverly Hills Dipbrow Brow Powder Brush ($20) and Benefit Cosmetics’ Hello Worry Liquid Eyeliner ($21.)

“My favorite item is probably my liquid eyeliners,” she says. “They stay put, they never budge. They come off easily too. I use them all the time!”

How Do You Keep Your Beauty Routine Clean Without Making It Seem Like Work?

“You’d be surprised how easy it is once you get used to having nothing on your face except sunscreen,” says Gadot. “It takes practice, but it works better than thinking ‘Oh, maybe I’ll take extra special care today.’ Once you start doing it, you realize you spend almost zero mental energy trying to maintain a full face of makeup. Plus, since I live alone now, I want to look natural. I don’t need anyone seeing me wearing tons of makeup.”

As for keeping those eyebrows groomed and shaped, Gadot likes Smashbox’s eyebrow brush ($13). “I don’t wax mine anymore either. Just pluck and trim. It’s easier on the skin.”

When it comes to skincare, Gadot recommends Dr. Jart+ Skin Perfector ($35) and Neutrogena Moisture Oil Free Balm Pack ($8). “Dr. Jart+ makes such good serums,” she notes. “Plus, I find that sometimes using oil free foundations allows me to build layers better without feeling heavy. As for moisturizers, I prefer neutrogena moisture oil free balms. There are loads available, and they smell delicious.”

Another product Gadot loves is LUSH Superfood Facial Masks ($11 per box). “These masks are awesome at cleaning away dead skin cells and giving my complexion a boost,” she says. “There are many different kinds, including ones specifically made for sensitive skin.”

What About All My Favorite Products & The Things That Always Come Off First When I Wash My Face?

“For starters, if you use eye creams, let them soak in overnight. Don’t rub them around your delicate area. Afterward, rinse well with cold water,” advises Gadot. “Products designed to remove waterproof mascara aren’t recommended for sensitive areas.”

With regard to cleansers, Gadot suggests choosing one that contains salicylic acid. “Salicylic acid is gentler on acne prone skin than benzoyl peroxide, plus it unclogs pores faster,” she explains. “Make sure you choose a gentle exfoliator. Exfoliating scrubs tend to dry out your skin, and harsh chemical exfoliants strip away healthy skin cells. Instead, opt for a daily facial scrub containing glycerin instead of sugar or salt. Glycerin won’t irritate your skin during exfoliation.”

One other tip Gadot wants to share involves removing stubborn earwax. “Ear drops contain zinc oxide, witch hazel and alcohol,” she says. “After popping these babies back in your ears, wipe down your eardrum with cotton balls dipped in warm tea. Repeat until all traces of gunk disappear.”

Finally, if you suffer from oily shine throughout the day, avoid picking up your bathroom mirror to check yourself out in front of it. Instead, stand facing a window. “Light reflecting off windows reflects oils, making your already shiny nose glisten even brighter,” says Gadot. “This is especially true if you sleep half naked underneath a duvet cover.”

Don’t Be Afraid To Experiment

“Sometimes people feel limited by their own ideas of what constitutes a ‘natural’ look,” says Gadot. “That said, don’t feel constrained by anything. If you see something cool online, give it a shot. Go ahead and experiment. Sometimes being open to new ways of expressing ourselves is the best way to discover who we truly are.”

On that note, here’s a quick video showing how exactly Gadot keeps her makeup super light…

To recap: Gadot starts out her morning ritual by taking hot showers with scented bath bombs. Next, she applies her serum, followed by sunscreen. Finally, she tops off her entire look with a translucent dust mask.

Now, I ask you: Is the above description accurate, or did I leave out part of your personal morning routine? If so, please tell me all about it in the comments below.
